MICHELLE FYO

MICHELLE is comprised of six like-minded 21-year-olds raised across Manhattan and Brooklyn. Their music is a unique brand of pop music that seemingly draws influence from Solange-esque R&B, as well as psych indie, like Tame Impala, as well as funk and soul - it's certainly an exciting mix. Last October saw the release of their off-kilter debut album HEATWAVE, and now the band have just released a fresh track 'FYO'. The new single is smothered in smooth production, blending a house-like drum groove with 70s funk synths, and Latino guitar - the sound being a sonic embodiment of the song's message. MICHELLE explain: "'FYO' is about belonging to different worlds but feeling rejected by both. Growing up as a mixed-race minority in the US, my self concept was warped by other people telling me what I am and am not, pushing and pulling me between identities. Although my feelings of cultural dissonance still ebb and flow, now I have the vocabulary, support system, and perspective to unpack that inner conflict on my own terms." Check out 'FYO' and the accompanying video here! -Ellie Rose-Davies
